Do you have a bicycle that takes up space, collects dust and rust, and can be recycled for riding a few more kilometers?
I recently rescued and donated two bikes that were going to be thrown away at a landfill facility in Melbourne. Luckily, some friends mentioned the existence of bike charity community-based programs that receive them for later donations.
I found WeCycle, a place for bicycle recycling near me. It was fulfilling the care and kindness of the volunteers helping. Not only was it fulfilling, but most of their repaired bikes were given away to refugees.
The organisation is run by volunteers who put their energy into helping riders fix their bikes (minor repairs) and renovating old but still serviceable ones as donations to people with no financial means to acquire one.
Instead of dumping them at a recycling facility, check out what bike non-for-profit organisations exist around your local area, and donate to encourage people to ride more and drive less.
