    • The Moustache Lundi 27.1 Verdict

Designed and built in France, the Moustache Lundi 27.1 is a step-thru electric bike that comes fitted with high-end components.

From the moment I first saw it, I was drawn to its distinctive handlebar configuration. This differs from the standard design I’m accustomed to.

I want to clarify its reference. The 27.1 offers a 400Wh battery and 50Nm, whereas the 27.2 and 27.3 refer to the 500Wh battery, but with 65Nm and 75Nm, respectively.

The 27.3 version will include the Bosch smart system, which is already embedded.

Important information about my review: This e-bike was loaned by Spokes Abbotsford for testing purposes, and all the words are my own. I have not been compensated to promote the bike store or the bike’s brand.

    Riding The Moustache Lundi 27.1

    Comfort & Maneuverability

    – As I mentioned in my review, the handlebar design – eagle wing, as I call it – was unique. It offered a very comfortable position when riding up and downhill. This was reflected when taking a quick, sharp turn at high speed, something I didn’t experience with the XDS E-Micro folding e-bike.

Moustache Lundi Balance at high speed

    – I also appreciated the grips’ design. This was noticeable when braking and feeling my body weight being supported by the grips, reducing my wrist pressure.

    – I rode the Lundi 27.1 for around 30 km, and I didn’t feel any sign of discomfort in my lower back. I believe this is due to my body posture when reaching the handlebars with easiness, and having a comfortable saddle.

    Motor

    – I thought that 50Nm torque was low for 27kg weight, but the Bosch Active Line Plus was impressive. I loved the fact of its quietness along with how much power was delivered.

    – The other point I liked was the great synchronisation of the motor and the gear system. The motor was gentle when shifting gears, which will extend the chain lifespan.

    Controller

    – The Intuvia controller and display were magnificent. I loved how intuitive their operation was and how easily I could see the readouts, especially on a bright day.

    – My favourite part was the possibility of removing the display from its socket. This would add an extra layer of security that could potentially prevent thieves from taking the bike.

    Braking performance

    – How amazing my experience was when riding downhill and testing the Shimano braking system. My first impression was about how smoothly the three-finger levers reacted to my hand pressure.

    – I honestly didn’t feel unsafe when braking; in fact, the bike and tyres were quite responsive and stable.

    Accessories

    – A good commuter bike should have the minimum accessories for a good commuting experience. The Lundi 27.1 was equipped with all the gadgets, including solid mudguards, a strong beam light, and an easy-to-manage kickstand.

    – The numerous e-bike anti-theft elements included, such as the AXXA rear tyre locking system, placed this Moustache model at the top of my list of preferred e-cycles.

    – I really liked the carry weight capacity of the rear rack, rated at 27 kg. As far as I have seen, most of the e-bike manufacturers offer up to 25 kg. Two (2) kg extra makes a difference, I think.

    What Could Have Been Better?

    – There were not many things about I could complain; really, this model was convincing. Maybe the only thing that could have been reconsidered was having the front light not fixed to the frame, which limits the beam only to one position.

    The Moustache Lundi 27.1 Verdict

    – The French brand has demonstrated that it can be a good competitor to other European companies, especially the German ones.

    – One of the things that I always look for in an e-bike is stability and good balance when taking corners at high speed. The Lundi model offered that.

27 kg rear rack Lundi 27.1– The elegant design of the frame combined with the Bosch quality were clearly key elements to bring this model up high.

    – The part that I loved the most was the generosity of the accessories installed, such as the rear tyre locking system and the high-rated rear rack.

    – The cockpit was designed thinking out of the box, offering a different shape and enhancing my comfort while riding.

    – I found it interesting that the controller system can be upgraded to the latest Smart Bosch system, which gives riders more autonomy to tune to their preferred riding style.

The Moustache Lundi 27.1 has exceeded my expectations, and I would definitely invest in it as an e-cycle for commuting purposes.
