The Giant Ride Control One was built with a minimalist design and ease of use; however, I know most of us are used to a display attached and a more straightforward up-and-down arrow control.
As far as I know, this controller was created for Giant electric bikes built between 2019 and 2023.
While reviewing the Giant Roam E+ commuter e-bike, I found it a bit difficult to understand how to operate it. So this guide is for those who struggle with its operation.

Features offered
Aside from giving information about the pedal assist level (PAS) used and the battery power level (LED indicator system), the Ride Control One Ant+ also offered a walk assist mode and, more interestingly, the Smart Assist mode.
Furthermore, if you want to optimise the performance of your rides and access more stats from the system, you will need to download the RideControl App. It will be connected via Bluetooth and GPS.
How To Activate the Walk Assist Mode?
These are the steps to do it:
- Press the button located underneath the down arrow.
- Following this, the PAS LED will go up and down once indicating the system is activated.
- Finally, pressing the up arrow will kick the motor on and take the e-bike at around 5 km/h
The Smart Assist Mode
Activating the Smart Assist mode can be a little bit tricky, too. After playing a bit with the controller, I found the way, which is simpler than I thought:
- Press the down arrow for 3 seconds
- The middle LED (where PAS 3 is) will turn on
- Start riding, so the motor provides assistance based on the terrain inclination.
To deactivate the mode, you have to press any of the arrows.
I hope this explanation helped you understand the Giant Ride Control One Ant+ operation.
