The Giant RideControl One was designed with a minimalist interface to keep things simple — but if you’re used to a full display and standard up/down controls, it can take some getting used to.
This controller is commonly found on Giant electric bikes manufactured between 2019 and 2023.
When I reviewed the Giant Roam E+ commuter e-bike, I initially found the RideControl One a bit confusing. So if you’re struggling to understand how it works, this guide is for you.
Giant RideControl One Key Features
Aside from giving information about the pedal assist level (PAS) and the battery power level (LED indicator system), it also offered a walk assist mode and, more interestingly, the Smart Assist mode.
Furthermore, if you want to optimise the performance of your rides and access more stats from the system, you will need to download the RideControl App. It will be connected via Bluetooth and GPS.
How To Activate the Walk Assist Mode
These are the steps to do it:
- Press the button located underneath the down arrow.
- Following this, the PAS LED will go up and down once, indicating the system is activated.
- Finally, pressing the up arrow will kick the motor on and take the e-bike at around 5 km/h
How to Use The Smart Assist Mode
I found that activating the Smart Assist mode was a little bit confusing. After playing a bit with the controller, here’s the simple method I discovered:
- Press and hold the down arrow for 3 seconds
- The middle PAS LED (level 3) will light up
- Start pedaling — the motor will automatically adjust its support based on terrain and conditions.
To deactivate the mode, you have to press any of the arrows.
I hope this guide helps you get the most out of your RideControl One Ant+ operation. Once you get the hang of it, it becomes second nature!
